Mercedes-Benz Dominates World Car of the Year Awards
In the automotive world, there is no more prestigious honor than being named overall World Car of the Year. The coveted award, along with Car of the Year awards in specific vehicle categories, is voted on by a panel of 75 top automotive journalists from 22 countries around the world. This year the winner is the 2015 Mercedes-Benz C-Class premium mid-sized sedan and coupe. The Mercedes-Benz C-Class is a spectacular vehicle and one of the best-selling cars here at Mercedes-Benz of Westminster. Frankly, we aren’t surprised that it was named the overall World Car of the Year for 2015.
The announcement of the winners took place at the New York Auto Show in April, and included two other Mercedes-Benz vehicles at the podium as well. In the category of World Luxury Car of the Year the Mercedes-Benz S-Class Coupe took top honors, and in the Performance Car of the Year category it was the spectacular Mercedes-AMG GT S.
The Competition
The initial list of vehicles vying for the overall World Car of the Year title began with 24 vehicles. To be eligible, a vehicle must be offered for sale on at least two continents in the current model year. From the initial list of 24, the competition is narrowed to twelve, and then to three finalists. This year the finalists alongside the C-Class were the Ford Mustang and the Volkswagen Passat.
In the World Luxury Car of the Year category, the Mercedes-Benz S-Class Coupe went up against the BMW i8 and the Range Rover Autobiography LWB to take top honors. It was the second year in a row for the S-Class in this category. And yes, this is the same S-Class that you can get right here in our Mercedes-Benz of Westminster showroom.

The competition for World Performance Car of the Year included 12 initial vehicles, and was narrowed down to three finalists. This year the Mercedes-AMG GT S beat out the BMW M4/M3 Coupe and Sedan, and the Jaguar F-Type R Coupe to take the top spot.
Mercedes-Benz Commitment to Driving Performance
In his acknowledgement of this honor, Daimler AG Chairman and head of Mercedes-Benz vehicles Dr. Dieter Zetsche said, “Driving Performance is our brand promise. The Mercedes-AMG GT has everything to live up to this promise; from its proportions and full-blooded motor sport technology to the optimal weight distribution. We are extremely delighted that the jury evidently shares our point of view.”
Here at Mercedes-Benz of Westminster we all share in the pride of winning three of the top five honors at the World Car of the Year awards. Mercedes-Benz was the only car manufacturer to have finalists in all five categories of competition. We know how spectacular and luxurious the entire Mercedes-Benz lineup is, and invite all of our Denver-area patrons to come in and see them for yourself – including the newest World Car of the Year, the Mercedes-Benz C-Class.
